Costa del Sol

Hello again, readers.  Sorry it's been a bit since our last update.  We've been too busy exploring Spain to make a post!

At the moment I'm watching a fútbol match at our gracious host, Roberto's house after a beautiful day on the beach with Jenna.  We spent a nice relaxing day sunbathing and walking the so-called "Costa del Sol" in Marbella.  After all the trekking we've been doing lately, a day lounging on the beach was a much needed rest!

Here are a couple pictures of our beach day:

The people of Andalucía (the region of southern Spain that encompasses the cities of Málaga, Marbella and Seville) are a relaxed and merry bunch.  They love to have fun, and they certainly know how.  One thing that took both Jenna and I some getting used to (and indeed neither of us can keep of with these night owls) is the schedule that most people here keep.  It seems sleep in Spain is not much of a priority: everyone we've met a stayed with here have made it a habit to stay up until the wee hours--we're talking 5, 6, 7 in the morning on weekends, at least 2 or 3 on weekdays).  They "siesta" (nap) in the afternoon to prepare themselves for the late night ahead of them; most shops actually close down in the afternoon, and reopen around 5 or 6.

One thing Jenna and I both appreciated is that the tapas bars in Granada offered free tapas with each beer!  We had a lot of fun checking out some cool bars and getting free food.  Good stuff!

And one of my favorite things about Spain is that I can practice my Spanish.  I took a few Spanish classes in high school and college, but I haven't really spoken it in years.  It's amazing how much of it is coming back to me, and it's so fun to be able to order a meal at a restaurant or ask for directions in another language.  I wish I could stay here longer to really learn the language!  Maybe some day..
